Adel Mostafa (b. 1980) is an Egyptian painter whose work draws upon the landscapes, architecture and visual traditions of Egypt. Rather than recording specific locations, he reconfigures fragments of everyday life into environments suspended between recollection and reinvention, where the familiar is quietly reimagined. Across painting, collage and printmaking, Mostafa has developed a visual language in which recurring forms migrate from one body of work to the next, acquiring new meanings through their changing relationships with one another. Rivers, boats, architecture, vegetation and handcrafted wooden dolls emerge as enduring points of reference within an evolving landscape. The incorporation of gold and silver leaf further distances these scenes from direct observation, introducing shifting qualities of light that soften the boundary between the tangible and the imagined. While grounded in recognisable settings, his paintings privilege atmosphere over topography. Alongside his studio practice, Mostafa is a lecturer in the Department of Painting at the Faculty of Fine Arts, Alexandria University, where he completed his Bachelor of Fine Arts, Master’s degree and PhD. His work has been exhibited extensively in Egypt and internationally, including the solo exhibitions Out of the Box (2015), The Road (2018), Valentine’s in Alexandria (2021), The Jasmine Presence (2024), Lovers of the Nile (2025) and Aswan (2026) at Zamalek Art Gallery.
