Bachelor of Faculty of Art Education 2011, Helwan University, Cairo, Egypt.George Fadel (b. 1990) is an Egyptian painter whose practice brings together figurative and symbolic imagery within densely constructed compositions. Drawing on sources that range from Egyptian history and mythology to geometry and the natural world, his paintings create an associative field in which figures, animals, signs and recurring motifs appear interconnected. Fadel builds his compositions through the accumulation and reconfiguration of forms. Recognisable imagery is layered with geometric structures, lines and symbols, allowing different references to coexist without resolving into a single narrative. Working across painting and mixed media, he places particular emphasis on the treatment of the surface, using colour, texture and overlapping forms to move between representation and more ambiguous, imagined spaces. This process of bringing disparate visual references into relation has become a defining feature of his work. Fadel holds a Bachelor’s degree in Art Education from Helwan University, graduating in 2011, and founded Da Vinci Academy for Fine Arts Education in 2016. Alongside his studio practice, he has participated in exhibitions, festivals and workshops in Egypt and internationally, including several editions of Egypt’s Youth Salon and programmes in India. His work is held in collections including the General Authority for Cultural Palaces and the Egyptian Embassy in New Delhi.
