ولد الفنان محمد صبرى بسطاوى برشيد شمال مصر ١٩٨٣ وترجع اصوله الى الاقصر جنوب مصر وهذه النشأة قد اثرت فى تجربته الفنية حيث الارث الجنوبى وحكايات الصعيد التحق بكلية الفنون جامعة المنيا ثم انتقل الى الاسكندرية وتخرج من كلية الفنون الجميلة جامعة الاسكندرية بتقدير امتياز مع مرتبة الشرف. يعمل مدرس بقسم النحت جامعة الاسكندرية ومشارك فى الحركة الفنية المصرية من عام ٢٠٠٣ الى الان، ادار عدد من الفعاليات الدولية اهمها سمبوزيوم اسوان الدولى لثلاث دورات متتالية كما شارك فى منتدى شباب العالم الاول ونظم عدد من المعارض بالاسكندرية و للفنان مقتنيات فى عدد من المتاحف المصرية والعالمية ومقتنيات عند العديد من الاشخاص فى مصر والخارج. الفنان «محمد صبري »هو أحد فناني جيل الشباب الذين لم يتوقفوا عند حدود التقنية الواحدة، بل تعددت الأساليب الفنية لديهم؛ من نحت ورسم وتصوير، ليخلق بها عالمه الفني الخاص، الذي استقى مفرداته من خليط حضارات وإرث ثقافي عريض؛ فتشعر حين تتأمل أعماله بالفضاء الرحب الذي تسبح فيه بين منحوتات آشورية ذات طابع نوبي غرقت بداخل منمنمة فارسية وسط شخوص ومخلوقات معلقة بين الواقع والخيال، في حالة من العبث المتزن ليصنع بها حالة من المزيج الشعبي المعاصر يحمل في شكله وأسلوبه الأصالة والتجديد وخصوصية الهوية. Mohamed Sabry Bastawy is an Egyptian artist who was born in Rashid (North of Egypt) in 1983 His origins are from Luxor, an upper Egyptian city. His artistic experience was influenced by his origins, where he was exposed to the southern heritage and the upper Egypt stories. He joined the Faculty of Fine Arts, Minya University, then he moved to Alexandria, where he graduated from the Faculty of Fine Arts, Alexandria University with distinction with honors. Dr. Bastawy is an instructor in the Department of Sculpture at the Faculty of Fine Arts, Alexandria University, and is a participant in the Egyptian artistic movement since 2003. He organized various international events, the most important of which is Aswan International Symposium for 3 consecutive years. He also participated in the First World Youth Forum and organized a number of exhibitions in Alexandria. The artist has collectibles in various Egyptian and international museums, as well as collectibles by many people in Egypt and abroad. Dr. Bastawy is one of the young artists generation who hasn't been limited by the single technique approaches, but rather he has multiple artistic styles and methods, including sculpture, drawing and photography, that he uses to create his own magical artistic world that is inspired by a mixture of civilizations and a wide cultural heritage. When you contemplate his works, you feel the spacious space in which they float between Nubian-themed Assyrian sculptures that sank inside a Persian stylized amidst personalities and creatures hanging between reality and fiction, in a state of sober absurdity to create a state of contemporary popular mix that carries originality, modernization and identity.
