Overview
Why do we hold on to some memories over others and go so far as to attaching them to physical objects in our possession? When I was moving out of my parent’s house, I was able to get rid of a lot, but there were a few things that I couldn’t let go of. I realized how I’ve romanticized objects in my possession because of how significant their memories are to me. I noticed the amount of things I had kept over the years; if put together they can tell a lot of stories about my life and myself. Each item has a unique story. It almost felt like I was documenting different layers of my life through objects. Here I explore the different items that we chose to keep in our possession. Whenever we see our significant object we are reminded of a time, place or feeling. Thus the objects become like souvenirs from different eras of our lives. These pieces carry stories and memories so precious to us that we don’t want to let go of them. By exposing the items on a white background, I’m able to take the object out of its home and put it under the spotlight, giving it the space to be noticed and appreciated by others. I want the viewers to enjoy this piece as a whole, but also to look at each toy knowing that every item featured is sentimental to someone and is layered with positive memories. It hopes to evoke joyful memories of your own.
