The City of Ropes

"I have become forgotten in the streets of my city… not because I left it, but because the features that once knew me… are no longer there." Today, cities are transforming into spaces of "excessive standardization," where silent concrete blocks and cold glass facades replace neighborhoods that once breathed stories and tales. We are living in a moment in which a place loses its identity, becoming merely a set of numbers and engineering functions devoid of artistic and historical sensibility. When the visual landscape changes at such staggering speed, it is not only the urban environment that shifts, but also our human behavior. The human rhythm has sharpened into something that lacks emotion, leaving individuals feeling like strangers within their own homeland—and even their own homes. I search within the void left by the absence of old aesthetic elements… those intricate details that once gave buildings a soul, now sacrificed like an offering. "Houses whose souls have died remain nothing but empty shells, stirring within the soul a sense of desolate estrangement." Naguib Mahfouz, Palace of Desire Ayman Lotfy
