EXTINCTION

In this exhibition, Carelle Homsy presents the irreversible loss of extinction, a theme that naturally follows her long exploration of nostalgia, beauty, and the fragility of nature. Through delicate brushstrokes and haunting imagery, her works bear witness to species that have vanished or are on the brink, emphasizing humanity’s role in their destruction. The viewer is confronted by the fearful and sorrowful gazes of creatures that we have hunted for sport and for our own entertainment, whose bodies we steal for our own vanity and whose environments we are rendering uninhabitable. Yet, beneath the sorrow, there is a call to action—a cry to act before more species become nothing more than mere memories and children’s stories about what once was. By placing extinction within the broader context of cultural and environmental decline, Carelle challenges us to reconsider our relationship with the natural world, and to partake in it, not as passive observers, but as advocates for a better future.
